We’re still over a month away from NFL Training camps, but it’s getting closer. This was not considered a very good quarterback or running back class, so choosing a Rookie of the Year this early is not easy. You can wait until preseason, but why wait? If a rookie has a great game, the odds can change dramatically and preseason play doesn’t usually equate to regular-season success due to the competition.

Offensive Rookie of the Year
Pick: WR Christian Watson +800 -Green Bay Packers
Favorite: QB Kenny Pickett +500-Pittsburgh Steelers
Watson has looked very good in the offseason according to reports. He has the size and speed to become a big target for Aaron Rodgers, who lost DeVante Adams to the Raiders. The only concern is the jump from FCS North Dakota State to the NFL, though that program is better than many in FBS. Rodgers needs targets and look for Watson to jump to at least his second-favorite target. Considering the weakness of the rookie quarterbacks, a receiver should win this award and why not Watson?
Defensive Rookie of the Year
Pick: S Tyler Hamilton +800-Baltimore Ravens
Favorite: Edge Aidan Hutchinson +500-Detroit Lions
This award is usually about getting the most sacks unless you have a linebacker like a Micah Parsons or Darius Leonard, who just impact the game in many ways. That player is Tyler Hamilton, a safety from Notre Dame, who will be asked to do more than just cover the tight end or roam the secondary. He will also be asked to blitz and make plays everywhere. Has the size (6-4, 210) and the smarts to be impactful right away for a team that needs help in the secondary.

Pick: Ja’Marr Chase, Cincinnati Bengals +1200
Favorite: Cooper Kupp, LA Rams +700
Is there a better combination of size, speed and hands in the NFL? Caught 81 passes for 1,445 yards as a rookie and will only get better. Chase plays for a team that loves to sling the ball and has Joe Burrow to get him the ball. He’ll see more attention, but they also have Tee Higgins to work the middle and Tyler Boyd in the slot.
Most Rushing yards
Pick/Favorite: Jonathan Taylor, Indianapolis Colts +500
This position is all about health, but you can’t predict that. You can pick Taylor or Derrick Henry every season. Henry’s issue is that A.J. Brown is gone and teams will load the box even more against a shaky passing game. Taylor adds Matt Ryan, who can still sling the ball. Taylor ran for 1,811 yards last season with Carson Wentz at quarterback. He’ll come close to 2,000 yards this season.

Pick: Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs +900
Favorite: Justin Herbert, LA Chargers +550
Yes, I know that Tyreek Hill is gone but Travis Kelce caught 92 passes for 1,125 yards last season. Enter JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling and rookie Skyy Moore. They have a deep threat in Mecole Hardman, who could break out with Hill gone. Mahomes will have a chip on his shoulder. He threw for 4,839 yards in a so-called down season.
