2024 College Football Conference Winner: Sun Belt
The Sun Belt is one of the few conferences that still has separate divisions. They are also stable as no new members have arrived. Appalachian State is the favorite at +320 to win the SBC championship as they reside in the East Division. Texas State is the favorite to win the West Division and they add James Madison quarterback Jordan McCloud in a huge interconference transfer.
SBC Championship Game Winner: James Madison +700
It’s time to unleash the Dukes, who won their first 10 games before falling to App State in overtime at home. New coach Bob Chesney from, Holy Cross, takes over for Curt Cignetti, who took the Indiana head job. JMU was in a transition phase coming over from FCS, but they were still able to participate in the Armed Forces Bowl and lost to Air Force in that game. Now, they have something to play for. Then won 10 straight games assuming that they were not eligible for any title game. Their defense was their strength as they allowed just 2.6 yards per carry last season. They add 6-foot-5 EDGE Lloyd Summerall from USF and LB Raymond Scott from USC. The issue is at quarterback with McCloud gone, former Washington State starter Dylan Morris arrives. Senior RB Ayo Adeyi comes in after rushing for 6.3 yards per carry with North Texas last season. They also add former four-star recruit George Pettway from North Carolina. They don’t play App State until the end and avoid Texas State.
Longshot: Troy +900
The Trojans are coming off a monster season where they went 11-3 and 7-1 in the SBC. Their only conference loss came against JMU by two points at home and they beat App State 49-23 in the championship game. Yes, they lose a lot but with Notre Dame OC Gerad Parker taking over, they shouldn’t fall too far. It starts at quarterback where “Goose” Crowder is expected to take over at quarterback for Gunnard Warson. Chris Lewis returns at receiver after catching 10 TDs last season. On defense, they add Cincinnati transfer Ja-Mal Williams on the defensive line and LB Jordan Perry arrives from Kansas State. They also ad NC State transfer Cecil Powell and ECU transfer RaRa Dillworth to fortify the secondary.
