(odds from Draft Kings)
1)Jer’Zahn Newton, 6-1, 300, Illinois, NG
Newton played for a great defense at Illinois and led the Illini in tackles for loss (14), QB hurries (11), sacks (5.5) and fumble recoveries (2). Is very athletic for his size (4.8 40) and led the country in blocked kicks with four. Throws his body around. Round: 1
2)Byron Murphy, 6-1, 297, Texas, NG
Athletic nose guard who runs a 4.87 40. Similar to Ravens’ All-Pro Justin Madubuike. Plays low to the ground and is very explosive.Very strong to make up for his lack of length. Rounds: 1-2
3)T’vondre Sweat, 6-4, 366, Texas, DT
Massive player who will be a run stopper. But is also very nimble on his feet. Will need to lose some weight to become a more effective pass rusher. Rounds 1-3.
4)Kris Jenkins, 6-3, 299, Michigan, DT
His father was an NFL All-Pro so he has great genes. Runs pretty well (4.95 40) and is a very good defender against the run. Very athletic but that hasn’t translated to sacks (3.5 in his career). Will need some more size. Rounds: 2-3
5)Darius Robinson, 6-6, 286, DT
Robinson has the length that teams love (85 inch wingspan). He’s a late bloomer, who had 7.5 sacks last season. Can play defensive tackle or end. Rounds 2-3
6)Michael Hall, 6-3, 290, Ohio State, DT
Hall played nose guard last season and he’s more of a three-technique. He has good speed and athleticism. Some character concerns don’t help his situation, but could be a very productive defensive tackle. Rounds 3-4
7)Braden Fiske, 6-4, 292, Florida State, DT
Fiske is very explosive and strong who started at Western Michigan before he moved to Florida State. Has some things to work on which is not a great thing when you are 24. Had 43 tackles and six sacks last season. Rounds 3-4
8)Maason Smith, 6-6, 315, LSU, DT
Smith is very quick for his size and is an outstanding athlete. Does need to get stronger. Was suspended for the opener last season and is coming off a torn ACL in 2022 so he’s never quite blossomed in college but has all the tools. Rounds 3-4
9)Ruke Orhorhoro. 6-4, 294, Clemson, DT
Orhorhoro is an outstanding athlete who played other sports growing up including basketball. Is pretty raw and will need to get stronger to play better against the run. Rounds: 2-3
10)Brandon Dorlus, 6-3, 283, Oregon
Dorius had 25 tackles and five sacks with seven batted passes last season. Has good length and ran a 4.85 40, so he’s a very good athlete. He has the frame to be an interior player, and has the skill set of an EDGE. Rounds 3-4
