An Updated Look at the College Football Bowl Games: Transfers and Coaching Moves (Dec. 26)

The transfers keep leaving, injured players are opting out and coaching moves continue as of Tuesday, Dec. 27. It doesn’t make handicapping any easier, but it helps when you know who is playing, who is coaching, who is opting out, who is too injured to play and who is transferring out.

Military Bowl-(Annapolis, Md., 2pmET)

Virginia Tech vs. Tulane (VT -10.5/44)

*Tulane will be playing with an interim head coach as Slade Nagle takes over for Wilie Fritz, who moved on to Houston. The Green Wave also loses QB Michael Pratt (AAC OPOY) and leading WR Chris Brazell. DB DJ Douglas (54tkl, 3 INT) is also in the portal.

*VT loses TE Dae’Quan Wright (28 catches for 366 yds).

Duke’s Mayo Bowl (Charlotte, 5:30pmET)

North Carolina vs. West Virginia (WVU -6.5/55.5)

*UNC has been decimated leading off with QB Drake Maye declaring for the draft. Backup Conner Harrell, a redshirt freshman will get the start. Top WR Tez Walker, All-ACC LB Cedric Gray, starting CB Alijah Huzzie are out.

*West Virginia loses center Zach Frazier.

Holiday Bowl (San Diego, 8pmET)

USC vs. Louisville (Louisville -7/58.5)

*USC loses QB Caleb Williams to the draft. Freshman QB Malachi Nelson also entered the portal. WR Brenden Rice (45 for 791 yds, 12 TDs) and RB MarShawn Lloyd (820yds, 9 TDs) are opting out.

*Louisville loses RB Jawhar Jordan (1,128yds, 13 TDs) and WR Jamari Thrash (63 for 858 yds, 6 TDs) to the NFL.

Texas Bowl (Houston, 9pmET)

Texas A&M vs. Oklahoma State (OK State -2/54.5)

*Texas A&M will start QB Jaylen Henderson with QB Max Johnson in the portal. WR Evan Stewart (38 catches for 514 yds, 4 TDs) and TE Jake Johnson (27 for 235 yds, 4 TDs) are also in the portal. On defense, they lost CB Tyreek Chappell (21 tkl, 1 INT), CB Bryce Anderson (47 tckl, 1 INT, 1 FR), CB Deuce Harmon (18 tck, 7 PD), DL Walter Nolen (37 tkl, 4 sck, 1 pd) and EDGE Fadil Diggs (36tckl, 4 sck, 2 PD). WR Ainias Smith (53 rec. for 795 yds) and LB Edgerrin Cooper (83 tckl, 8 scks) have opted out. Jimbo Fisher was recently fired as head coach. DC Elijah Robinson will coach the bowl game.

*SMU will go with r-freshman Kevin Jennings at QB as Preston Stone (28 TDs) is out due to injury. Jennings helped SMU win the AAC title game. BC has no major losses.

Pinstripe Bowl (Yankee Stadium, New York, 2:15pmET)

Rutgers vs. Miami-Fla. (Miami -1/40.5)

*Miami loses QB Tyler van Dyke (19 TD, 12 INTs) to Wisconsin. Emory Williams, who replaced TVD at QB, is out due to injury. Sophomore Jacurri Brown, who started twice last season, is expected to start. WR Colbie Young (47 catches for 563 yds, 5 TDs) and LB Corey Flagg Jr. (48 tkl) are in the portal. S James Williams (73 tkl, 1 INT) is option out along with S Kamren Kinchens (59tkl, 5 INT) and DT Leonard Taylor (20 tkl).

*Kansas State will be without QB Will Hoard, who is in the portal. Avery Johnson, who has nine TDs this season with six on the ground, will start.
