Baseball to return on July 24
Finally. It's over. At least at the moment. After three months of negotiations, the Major League Baseball Players Association agreed to return to play and on the health and safety protocols on Tuesday night.
"All remaining issues have been resolved and Players are reporting to training camps," the union tweeted Tuesday night.
The bottom line is that there will be baseball starting on July 24 and players will report on July 1 to a second spring training. The season will last 60 games in 66 days and the regular season will end on Sept. 27.
According to Jon Heyman from MLB Network, the plan is to play 40 games in the division and 20 games interleague with their geographic counterpart. There will also be a designated hitter in the National League for the first time.
There are still questions that remain including whether Toronto will play in their home stadium. Due to quarantine laws in Canada, the Blue Jays may have to find another home in the States.
