College Basketball Transfer Portal: (4/13/20)
Let's take a look at the key players that entered the portal on Monday, April 13 and over the weekend.
Here are the key players who have left their program according to media reports, Verbal Commits.com, Rotowire.com, Twitter and other social media and the latest ones who committed to a school. Stay tuned as we will update this list every day and eventually compile the entire list of key players with their stats. Key players are listed in alphabetical order. There is a possibility that all transfers will be eligible without having to sit out. The NCAA will vote on a proposal very shortly.
April 13 (before 4pmET)
G Jamarius Burton (6-4, 200). Former school: Wichita State (10.3ppg, 3.5apg, 38.1% 3pt). New school: Texas Tech.
Comments: Another Wichita State transfer finds a home. Solid guard who is a strong passer and can hit the three.
G Devin Gage (6-2, 190). Former school: DePaul (4.5ppg). New school: Fresno State.
Comments: Gage averaged 9.1 points two seasons ago, but saw his minutes drop last season and played in just 12 games. Has one year left.
G Umoja Gibson (6-1, 168). Former school: North Texas (14.5ppg, 39.4% 3pt). New school: Oklahoma.
Comments: Gibson was a quality player for North Texas who can shoot it from deep and averages 1.4 steals. Good pick up for the Sooners.
G Jervay Green (6-3, 210). Former school: Nebraska (8.2ppg, 4.2rpg). New school: Pacific.
Comments: Freshman had a solid first year in the Big 10 and moves on where he should be a star at Pacific with three years left.
F Yavuz Gultekin (6-7, 201). Former school: Texas A&M (1.9ppg). New school: ?
Comments: Saw very little action in his first season and has three years left. Maybe he goes to a mid-major school.
G Makhtar Gueye (6-10, 210). Former school: UAB (6.8ppg, 5.1rpg). New school: ?
Comments: Thin big man has all sorts of interest. Is getting high major looks, but probably would be more bench fodder at bigger programs.
G Amauri Hardy (6-2, 190). Former school: UNLV (14.5ppg, 3.3apg, 33.3% 3pt). New school: Oregon.
Comments: Point guard who can play right away and should help the Ducks.
G Jalen Hodge (6-1, 180). Former school: UL Monroe (7.7ppg, 39.1% 3pt). New school: James Madison.
Comments: JMU needs some bodies and Hodge is a solid guard who can help some in the future.
G Curtis Holland (6-2, 222). Former school: High Point (12.3ppg, 39.1% 3pt). New school: Towson.
Comments: Powerfully built, athletic guard who played half of the season due to injury. Playing closer to home at Towson for a team that needs a scoring guard.
G Tray Maddox Jr. (6-5, 200). Former school: Oakland (9.1ppg, 34.5% 3pt). New school: Fullerton State.
Comments: Sophomore wing has some skills and has improved some from his first season.
G Charles Minlend (6-4, 210). Former school: San Francisco (14.4ppg, 4.7rpg, 30.3% 3pt). New school: Louisville.
Comments: Grad student who can play right away. You always wonder how quality mid-major players wind up at high-major programs. Some do well, including Damion Lee, who went from Drexel to Louisville and is in the NBA. Minlend is a talent, but doesn't shoot threes that well.
G Trey Murphy (6-8, 200). Former school: Rice (13.7ppg, 5.5rpg). New School: Virginia.
Comments: Good wing who will likely have to sit out and have two years of eligibility. Shot 37% from three-point, after making 42.1% in his freshman season. As long as he can defend, he'll fit in great.
F Jacob Tobbin (6-7, 185). Former school: Rhode Island (5.1ppg, 3.9rpg). New school: ?
Comments: Talented freshman who leaves a depleted Rams' program. Younger brother of Obi Toppin, last year's top player in the nation at Dayton. No doubt, he'll get some high major looks.
G Grant Weatherford (6-2, 195). Former school: IUPUI (9.3ppg, 4.9rpg, 2,9apg 32.9% 3pt). New school: ?
Comments: Weatherford had some strange numbers for a guard, making just 57% of his free throws. Could be a solid backcourt performer off the bench for a mid-major.
G Sharone Wright (6-5, 185). Former school: Wake Forest (2.3ppg). New school: ?
Comments: Son of the former Clemson big man of the same name that never really got it together at Wake Forest.
G Trey Wertz (6-4, 185). Former school: Santa Clara (11.9ppg, 3.9apg). New school: Notre Dame.
Comments: Talented guard from Santa Clara, who shot 40% from beyond the arc. Good pick up from Mike Brey and company.
G Holland Woods (6-1, 180). Former school: Portland State (17.7ppg, 5.2apg). New school: Arizona State.
Comments: Grad student who was a star as a mid-major and now will move up to the Pac-12.
