College Basketball Transfer Portal: (4/7/20)

The movement in the transfer portal in college basketball has finally slowed down. There are now 669 transfers as of 4pmET on Tuesday, April 7. Now, the biggest news to come out is players leaving their school to test the waters for the NBA Draft. One of those players today was 6-10 sophomore forward Jalen Smith from Maryland, who is a certain first-round pick and possible lottery selection. Illinois big man Kofi Cockburn, who is just a freshman, has also declared today. Another freshman, guard Nico Mannion from Arizona, also declared. More on the players leaving for the NBA Draft in a future article.

Let's take a look at the key players that entered the portal on Tuesday, April 7.

Here are the key players who have left their program according to media reports, Verbal Commits.com, Rotowire.com, Twitter and other social media and the latest ones who committed to a school. Stay tuned as we will update this list every day and eventually compile the entire list of key players with their stats. Key players are listed in alphabetical order.

April 7 (before 4pmET)

G David Dejulius (6-0, 190). Former school: Michigan (7ppg, 36.1% 3pt). New school: ?

Comments: Dejulius played two years in Ann Arbor and started just one game. Will have two years left.

G Aaron Estrada (6-4,207). Former school: St. Peter's (8.1ppg, 34% 3pt). New school: Oregon

Comments: That's a pretty big jump, though Estrada is just a freshman and barring a waiver, he'll sit out the 2020-21 season.

G Marquell Fraser (6-3, 200). Former school: Idaho (7.1ppg, 3.9rpg). New school: ?

Comments: Fraster shot 43.4% from the field for Idaho but just 11.8% from beyond the arc. He also saw less playing time as a junior. Might have two years left if he can get a redshirt season playing just 8 games in 2018-19.

F Patrick Harding (6-9, 245). Former school: Bryant (4.7ppg, 8.8rpg). New school: ?

Comments: Harding isn't much of a scorer, but an outstanding rebounder. He played in just 19 minutes per game and averaged 8.8 rebounds.

G Tyrese Martin (6-6, 205). Former school: Rhode Island (12.8ppg, 7.1rpg, 43.3% FG, 32.1% 3pt). New school: UConn.

Comments: Martin is a high-scoring wing who can help UConn right away. Not a consistent three-point threat, but just a sophomore, who will likely have to sit out a year.

F Joshua Morgan (6-11, 195). Former school: Long Beach State (8.4ppg, 6.1rpg, 2.5bpg). New school: ?

Comments: Morgan is going to garner heavy interest from top schools considering his size. He's just a freshman and he'll put on weight. That would take place in his sit-out season.

G Dwight Murphy Jr. (6-0, 165). Former school: Incarnate Word (9.6ppg, 3.2rppg). New school: Rider.

Comments: Solid point guard who has improved his game. Should be a solid pickup for the MAAC school.

G Qon Murphy (6-5, 190). Former school: Houston Baptist (7.1ppg, 36.1% 3pt). New School: New Hampshire

Comments: Had two seasons as a backup at Houston Baptist, but solid role player. Not sure that translates into a lot more time in New Hampshire and will have to sit out a season.

G Monty Scott (6-5, 185). Former school: Temple (7.2ppg). New school:?

Comments: A grad transfer. Maybe he should have stayed at Kennesaw State where he began. He averaged 17.3 points in 2017-18 on 34% 3pt shooting. Not a rebounder who never started with Owls. But proved he could score at a lower level.

G David Sloan (6-0, 180). Former school: Kansas State (5.3ppg, 2.3apg, 27.1% 3pt). New school?

Comments: Sloan has a year left and will be eligible right away. Started nine games in Big 12. Probably should move down to a mid-major.

F Benjamin Uloko (6-7, 265). Former school: Houston Baptist (8ppg, 4rpg). New school: ?

Comments: Uloko started in just 13 games in his sophomore season and 17.7 minutes per game. But teams are always looking for big bodies who can score and rebound.
