*No. 6 Ohio State (-3) over No. 9 Notre Dame 17-14
Where do we start? This game came down to the last drive as the Buckeyes won with one second left on a one-yard run by Chip Traynum. The Irish will have to sweep their schedule to reach the CFP with USC left, it’s not impossible. But it’s a shame that Notre Dame had 10 players on the field on the final play. Ohio State wasn’t impressive offensively, but part of the reason was that superstar WR Marvin Harrison Jr. was injured in the second half.
*No. 11 Oregon (-21) over No. 19 Colorado 42-6
This was almost like Miami blowing out Denver in the NFL. Bo Nix, in his 20th season apparently, threw for three TDs and ran for one. as this was never a game. The Ducks’ defense held QB Shedeur Sanders to 159 yards and a TD on 23-of-33 passing. The Buffs missed two-way star Travis Hunter (lacerated liver), but he wouldn’t have made a 36-point difference. This was over in the first half when the Ducks had 378 total yards to 21. They just dominated the Colorado offensive line in this one and that’s Coach Prime’s biggest problem on offense.
*No. 4 Florida State (-1.5) over Clemson 31-24ot
What a fantastic game as the ‘Noles found away on the road to not only edge the Tigers, but basically end their hopes for a playoff. Jordan Travis threw for 289 yards including two TD passes to Keon Coleman, who caught a 24-yard jump ball TD pass to get the win in overtime. Cade Klubnik wasn’t bad at QB for Clemson, throwing for 283 yards with a TD and a rushing one. But for Clemson, the run is over. They had seven ACC championships and five trips to the playoffs. Maybe Dabo Swinney will finally recognize that the transfer portal is important.
*No. 11 Utah (-4.5) over No. 22 UCLA 14-7
Utah just seems to know how to win, even with starting QB Cam Rising (ACL) still out. The Utes defense was outstanding, holding the Bruins to just 243 total yards with an average of 3.6 yards per play. However, Utah managed just 219 yards of offense at 3.4 yards per play. Freshman Dante Moore was under constant pressure all game, as he was sacked seven times. He did go 15-of-35 for 234 yards and threw a 17-yard TD pass to Josiah Norwood with 3:39 left.
*No. 21 Washington State (+3) over No. 14 Oregon State 38-35.
The Cougars are for real after this big win. Cameron Ward threw for four TD passes including three to Josh Kelly. Ward wound up completing 29-of-34 for 404 yards. However, the defense was an issue as they nearly blew the 28-14 halftime lead. They also gave up 242 yards on the ground. OSU QB D.J. Uiagalelei threw for 19 yards with a TD and a pick and ran for 61 yards. Wazzu improved to 4-0 this season and it looks like they are a factor in a loaded Pac-12.
*No. 12 LSU (-18) over Arkansas 34-31
This was a fun game but probably not for LSU fans who though they would cruise against a bad Arkansas team paying without their best player (Rocket Sanders). LSU QB Jayden Daniels threw for 320 yards and four TDs. But Arkansas started out fans thanks to QB K.J. Jefferson, who threw for 289 yards and three TDs. The Tigers need a 20-yard field goal from Damian Ramos with five seconds left to win the game. It’s never easy in the SEC with Ole Miss and Missouri coming up on the road so the Tigers better tighten up their defense.
