College Football Betting Recap for Week 9

Let’s talk about the upsets and upstarts from Week 9. Kansas shocked Oklahoma, Clemson continues its downfall, UNC falls again, Air Force rolls, and Arizona is for real.

*KANSAS (+7.5/66) over Oklahoma 38-33. The stunner was Kansas beating Oklahoma (7-1 SU), which nobody thought could happen a few years ago. But with Jason Bean playing instead of Jalon Daniels, the Jayhawks were able to come from behind and beat the Sooners with 55 seconds left on a 9-yard TD run from Devin Neal. OU QB Dillon Gabriel completed 14 of 19 for just 171 yards and a pick for Oklahoma, but it was their defense that folded, allowing 225 yards on 41 carries. Bean was not great (15 of 32, 218 yds, 2 INTs), but managed to run for a TD and combined for 280 yards as a passer and runner. The loss was devastating to not only Oklahoma’s CFP hopes, but to the Big 12’s as well.

*NC STATE (+9.5/44.5) over Clemson 24-17. The Tigers have now lost seven of their last 12 vs. Power Five opponents. Clemson will now have a single win season for the first time since 2010. Clemson scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to make the game close as they were down 24-7 going into the fourth quarter. For some reason, the Wolfpack won this game despite rushing for 64 yards on 26 carries and passed for 138 yards. Cade Klubnik threw for two picks for the Tigers and one of those was returned for a touchdown. Payton Wilson had a 15-yard interception return for a TD that was the difference in this game.

*LOUISVILLE (-3.5/47.5) over Duke 23-0. No. 17 Louisville improved to 4-1 in the ACC and 7-1 overall with their easy win over then No. 20 Duke. Riley Leonard (ankle) tried to gut it out at QB for Duke, but completed just 9 of 23 for 121 yards and a pick. The Cards didn’t do a whole lot on offense, but they didn’t have to. RB Jawhar Jordon controlled the game on the ground with 163 yards and two TDs. Jack Plummer completed 11 of 16 for 117 yards. The Cardinals finished with 351 total yards and held Duke to just 202 yards. Louisville now controls its own destiny in the ACC.

*GEORGIA TECH (+11.5/65.5) over then No. 17 North Carolina 46-42. While Florida State and Louisville continue to impress in the ACC, Clemson and North Carolina are fading. The Heels age-old problem on the defensive side of the ball continues to rear its ugly head. They allowed 635 yards of total offense, while Dontae Smith rushed for 178 yards for the Yellow Jackets. Haynes King threw for four TDs for Georgia Tech, who trailed the entire game until the final five minutes. For whatever reason, UNC struggles on the road in Atlanta as they’ve lost 11 of its last 13 games, but when you put up 577 yards of offense on the road, you should never lose a game.

*ARIZONA (+2.5/57.5) over Oregon State 27-24. Arizona knocked off another ranked team after upsetting then No. 11 Oregon State at home. At 5-3, the Wildcats are not going to a college football playoff game, but the future is bright thanks to freshman QB Noah Fifita, who had 275 yards passing and three TDs in the win. This is a team that lost to Mississippi State and USC in overtime early on. As for Oregon State, D.J. Uiagalelei struggled, completing just 15 of 29 for 218 yards with two TDs.

*Air Force (-15.5/47.5) over COLORADO STATE 30-13. Is Air Force one of the best military academy teams ever? That might be pushing it but the fact that QB Zac Larrier is playing through an injury where he was expected to miss a few games is pretty impressive and not atypical of an athlete from a military academy. Larrier didn’t a lot as a runner (36yds, 1 TD) or as a passer (32 yds, 1TD), but he as able to control the game. Emmanuel Michael ran for 130 yards and a TD, while the Falcons held the ball for 36:00. The Rams tied the game at the half on a Jordan Noyes 49-yard field goal with 45 seconds left, but were held scoreless in the second half. Air Force is now 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the Mountain West. With games against Army, Hawaii and UNLV coming up, Air Force should be 11-0 going into their finale at Boise State.
