College Football Betting Top Ten as of 9-25-2023

Top-seeded Georgia had an easy one, Ohio State found a way and Alabama’s quarterback situation continues to be an issue. Things are getting interesting as we head to Week Five. Here is this week’s new Top Ten:

Top Ten as of 9-25-2023

#10. Utah 4-0 (+6000) - QB Rising remains out but the Utes keep on winning, a gritty 14-7 win over UCLA. Next Up: Idle Last week’s Rank (10)

Upset Watch Week 3:

Things don’t always go according to plan in college football. Each week we will look at a possible upset against one of our top ten teams.

#24 Kansas at Texas (-17) 3:30 PM on Saturday: There are few true upset watches this week with a number of top ten teams idle. #24 Kansas is getting 17 points in Texas and do have the firepower to keep this game interesting.

The One That Got Away Week 1:

Each week we will look at a game from the previous week in which defeat was snatched away from the jaws of victory with a fateful play near the end of the game. We’ve all been there, why not painfully rehash it?

#6 Ohio State (-2.5) at #7 Notre Dame

A lot to like about the Irish on Saturday night. They were wearing their shamrock uniforms, Lou Holtz made an appearance in South Bend, and the team has an offense that can hang with the big boys this year. Getting three points as well? Lock it in.

What many thought would be a high-scoring affair turned quickly into a defensive slugfest. By halftime, the Buckeyes led 3-0 and each team was struggling to finish off drives, particularly Notre Dame. The Irish had multiple first-half drives that ended in disappointment but the Irish looked to be the stronger team despite trailing 3-0.

Things picked up in the second half and there were a bit more explosive plays but still tight and the spread looked painfully on point. The two teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter so it would all be decided by the final stanza. Irish at home, Holtz in the house, what could possibly go wrong? Well, nothing, of course. The Irish held off two long Ohio State drives including a critical 4th and 1 deep in Notre Dame territory. With under four minutes left, here came the Irish. Deftly mixing the run and pass, Notre Dame took a 14-10 lead with 8:10 left on a 2-yard TD pass. Ohio State tried to rally but was turned away by the Irish. When Notre Dame ran for a first down trying to clinch the game things were looking good. Until…a near pickoff, a sack, and an incomplete pass. Ohio State got the ball back with under three minutes to go. Notre Dame still had the ghosts, the uniforms, and Lou Holtz. What could possibly go wrong? A near interception with under 30 seconds left should have given us the clue. The Buckeyes inched closer. Fourth down and goal from the one. Where is Lou Holtz? Did he leave already? Someone fine Lou and….oh good God!! Touchdown Buckeyes! One second left!!!! The extra point is up and…ugh!! Good!! How could this happen, with sweet Lou Holtz here and…then Ohio State coach Ryan Day getting on the mic as players celebrate on the field. And he credits the win to…Lou Holtz?!! Apparently sweet, old Lou Holtz called Ohio State weak and unable to handle the toughness of the Irish. And Day and his team took that to heart. Damh you Lou Holtz!!! Final Score: Ohio State 17 Notre Dame 14 (+2.5) - LOSS
