Dodgers, Yankees are favorites to win the 2020 World Series
The 2020 baseball season was shortened to 60 games and will start on July 24. All the players are expected to report on July 1 for a second spring training or a camp.
On the one hand, this is not going to be a true baseball season, but the best teams should still be in the playoffs after 60 games and the playoffs will be normal. There will be three division winners in each league and two wild card teams, who face each other for a one-game playoff. The only major changes will be a universal DH for 2020-only and starting with a runner at second base in extra innings (regular season only). Let's take a look at the latest odds to win the World Series as of June 24 from mybookie.ag.
The Yankees and Dodgers are tied at +325 as the co-favorites to win the World Series. Both of these teams are loaded with talent. The Dodgers added Mookie Betts to an already-stacked lineup. The Yankees picked up one of the premier starting pitchers in baseball in Gerrit Cole.
The Houston Astros are the third favorite at +775 after losing Cole and their manager A.J. Hinch. They are followed by Atlanta (+1500), Minnesota (+1800), Washington (+1800), NY Mets (+2000), and St. Louis (+2200). Minnesota appears to be a nice pick and at a nice price. They picked up 3B Josh Donaldson and added Rich Hill and Kenta Maeda to help their rotation. Washington loses star 3B Anthony Rendon, but brought in two decent bats in Eric Thames and Starlin Castro. They still have one of the best rotations in baseball.
Oddsmakers feel Miami (+50000), Baltimore (+50000), Detroit (+50000) and Seattle (+30000) have zero shot to win the World Series. Maybe one of those teams surprise during the regular season, but the cream usually rises to the top in postseason.
One darkhorse to take a shot at is the Cincinnati Reds (+2500). They won 75 games last season and added to their lineup with Mike Moustakas and Nicholas Castellanos.
Buckle up! This should be a fun late July with 60 baseball games in 66 days.
