(odds from Draft Kings)
Top Pick
Kansas +1000
The Jayhawks are always in the mix, though last season, they lacked quality perimeter shooting and Kevin McCullar Jr. (18.3ppg, 6rpg,4.1apg, 33.3% 3pt) was injured late in the season. He’s gone but enter A.J. Storr, a 6-7 Wisconsin transfer, who averaged 16.8 points on 43.4% shooting last season (32% 3pt). They need a shooting guard and added 6-4 Zeke Mayo from South Dakota State. Mayo averaged 18.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists last season, while shooting 39.1% from beyond the arc. Alabama transfer Rylan Griffen (6-6, 190) adds another shooter from the wing, while making 39.2% from beyond the arc last season, while averaging 11.2ppg. 7-1 Hunter Dickinson (17.9ppg, 10.9rpg) and 6-9 K.J. Adams (12.6ppg) are back for another season. This is a loaded team with experience and shooters.
Sleeper
Arizona +2500
Nobody is talking about Arizona and maybe it’s because they are moving to the Big 12 along with Arizona State and Utah. The return of Caleb Love (18ppg, 3.4apg, 33.2% 3pt) certainly helps. Center Oumar Ballo (12.9ppg, 10.1rpg) and Pelle Larsson (12.8ppg) are gone. Coach Tommy Lloyd brought in Horizon League Player of the Year 6-6 Trey Townsend (17.3ppg, 8.1rpg) from Oakland. They added much-needed size in 6-8, 250-pound Tobe Awaka (5.1ppg, 4.6rpg) from Tennessee. Motiejuis Krivas (7-2, 260) was very productive (5.4ppg, 4.2rpg) in just 12.1mpg last season. Freshman Carter Bryant (6-8) is a big-time recruit, who should play right away. The key is getting Love and sophomore 6-3 guard Jaden Bradley back. Not many P5/6 teams return their starting backcourt.
Long Shot
Rutgers +5000 (from Fan Duel)
If you can get Rutgers’ odds for the Final Four, take a shot. They had one of the nation’s top recruiting classes and three solid transfers. Let’s start with Dylan Harper (6-6, 210), considered a potential top-five pick in the 2025 draft. “Ace” Bailey (6-8, 210) is another five-star player who had great genes (his father played at Houston, Dylan’s father is Ron Harper). Jeremiah Williams (6-4, 177) is back at guard, where he averaged 12.2 points and 3.4 rebounds on 44.4% shooting (20.8% 3pt). Rutgers is always desperate for scoring so they added 6-4 guard Tyson Acuff (21.7ppg, 43.3% FG, 29.2% 3pt) from Eastern Michigan, 6-7, 235-pound Zach Martini (8.4ppg, 38.5% 3pt) from Princeton and 6-5 wing Jordan Derkack (17ppg, 46.6%) from Merrimack. This is going to be a fun team to watch and progress.
