German Bundesliga - Bayern Munich vs. Eintracht Frankfurt- Preview & Prediction

Bayern Munich will try to notch a sixth consecutive victory in the Bundesliga while hosting 13th-placed Eintracht Frankfurt, who have dropped their past four decisions. Kick-off - at 12:30 PM ET on Saturday, May 23.

Bayern Triumph In East Berlin

Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich extended their unbeaten run in the league to 12 fixtures (W11 D1) after snatching a 2-0 victory against the league newcomers Union Berlin at An der Alten Forsterei on Sunday. Robert Lewandowski became only the second player in Bundesliga history to bank 26 goals after 26 outings in a league season after slotting home from the penalty spot with five minutes remaining in the first half, with Benjamin Pavard burying a header from a Joshua Kimmich’s corner at the end of the game. Bayern remains top of the Bundesliga (W18 D4 L4), with Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach trailing the side by four and six points respectively.

Polish superstar Lewandowski’s 26 strikes for the rolling year top Bundesliga’s goal chart, with RB Leipzig's Timo Werner sitting 2nd with 21 markers. Bayern’s Thomas Muller (6 goals) leads the league in assists (16). Goalie Manuel Neuer, meanwhile, has made 65 saves so far this season, ranking 14th in the Bundesliga in this department. He has banked a league-leading 11 clean sheets in 26 appearances and allows a goal every 90 minutes. Bayern is on top of the league in goals scored (75), shots taken (18.5 per game), ball possession (63.2%) and passing accuracy (87.3%).

Frankfurt Lose Fourth In Row

The misery of Eintracht Frankfurt expanded further, as the team was dealt its fourth consecutive league defeat following a 3-1 home fiasco against Borussia Monchengladbach at Commerzbank Arena on Saturday. The visitors took a 1-0 lead just 37 seconds into the contest, adding their second strike just six minutes later. Andre Silva scored Eintracht’s only snipe with nine minutes remaining in the game after Gladbach made it 3-0 with a second-half penalty. The Eagles are 13th in the league with a W8 D4 L13 record, sitting just five points above relegation, but with a game in hand.

Portuguese forward Goncalo Paciencia and Austrian defender Martin Hinteregger lead Eintracht Frankfurt with seven and six league snipes respectively. Serbian midfielder Filip Kostic (4 goals) has bagged the most assists (8). Goalie Kevin Trapp, meanwhile, ranks 18th in the Bundesliga in saves (49), having picked up three clean sheets in 14 starts. He gives up a goal every 55 minutes on average. Eintracht Frankfurt are 7th in most goals scored this year (39), 4th in most shots delivered (14.9 per game), 11th in control of the ball (48.6%) and 4th from the bottom in passing accuracy (75.2%).

Prediction

Eintracht Frankfurt is only one of four teams this season that has managed to beat league-leading Bayern Munich, banking a 5-1 home win on Nov. 2, when the reigning Bundesliga champions were reduced to 10 men after just 10 minutes of play. Expect a completely different scenario with the action switching to Bavaria, where Bayern have gone W12 D1 L1 against Frankfurt in all competitions since 2006. The Bundesliga leaders are the only team in Germany’s top tier to have gone unbeaten in the calendar year of 2020, picking up 34 from a possible 36 points, while the Eagles have dropped their past four decisions, being beaten with a combined score of 13-2.

Best Bets:

Bayern Munich to win by at least three goals (-120)

Correct score: 4-0 to Bayern (+900)

Robert Lewandowski to score first goal (+210)
