German Bundesliga - Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Freiburg - Preview & Prediction

Trailing the top-six by just two points, 7th-placed Freiburg will try to win for the first time in three games when paying a visit to Eintracht Frankfurt, who are battling to avoid relegation. Kick-off - at 14:30 PM ET on Tuesday, May 26.

Frankfurt Get Belted By Bayern

Eintracht Frankfurt did manage to beat 10-men Bayern Munich 5-1 on own turf back on Nov. 2, but ended up on the receiving end in the reverse fixture, dropping a 5-2 decision at Allianz Arena on Saturday. It was the 11th consecutive loss in Munich for the Eagles, who have failed to snatch a point at Bayern for more than 12 years. Defender Martin Hinteregger scored twice but also registered an own goal for Frankfurt, who have extended their losing skid to five matches after going W3 D1 in four contests prior. They are 14th in the league with a W8 D4 L14 record, sitting just four points above the bottom three.

Hinteregger leads his team and all Bundesliga defenders with eight goals during the current campaign. Goalie Kevin Trapp, meanwhile, sits 17th in the league with 55 saves in 15 starts. He has posted three clean sheets so far this season and allows a goal every 48 minutes on average. Eintracht Frankfurt, meanwhile, are 7th in most goals scored this year (41), 4th in most shots taken (14.8 per game), 11th in ball possession (48.2%) and 3rd from the bottom in passing accuracy (75.0%).

Freiburg Lose To Bremen

Freiburg’s second game back from the forced coronavirus break still saw the team in search for its first victory since the 3-1 home triumph over Union Berlin on March 7, as the team from Baden-Wurttemberg was edged out with a count of 1-0 by Werder Bremen at Schwarzwald-Stadion on Saturday. Freiburg led in ball possession (63%), shot attempts (17-10) and shots on target (7-2), but saw their only goal disallowed due to an offside call after the visitors already led 1-0 after the first 19 minutes of play. SCF is W1 D1 L3 in their last five fixtures, sitting 7th in the league (W10 D7 L10), just two points outside the top-six.

Despite failing to score in nine consecutive Bundesliga contests, German forward Nils Petersen still leads Freiburg with eight goals. He has found the back of the net in his last two outings against Eintracht Frankfurt, though. Goalie Alexander Schwolow, meanwhile, is 15th in the Bundesliga with 57 saves from 18 appearances, having picked up three clean sheets throughout the rolling year. He gives up a goal every 71 minutes on average. Freiburg is 13th in most goals scored (35), 8th in most shots delivered (13.3 per game), and 9th in both ball possession (49.1%) and passing accuracy (78.4%).

Prediction

Even though Eintracht Frankfurt are +100 favorites to win in this game, have faith in visiting Freiburg! The Black Forest club has already collected more points after 27 games this year (37) then managing to gather across each of the previous two seasons (36) and is still in the hunt for a place in Europe during the next campaign, trailing the top-six just by two points. Freiburg have also lost just two of their past eight head-to-head matchups against Frankfurt (W4 D2 L2), with the Eagles currently struggling big time, having been beaten in five consecutive fixtures by a combined score of 18-4.

Best bets:

Freiburg Double Chance (Win or Draw) (-150)

Nils Petersen to score anytime (+205)
