Joe Flacco expected to sign with the NY Jets
Cam Newton hasn't found a job yet, but Joe Flacco is apparently going to sign with the New York Jets. Adam Schefter of ESPN, reported that Flacco is going to sign a one-year deal to be a backup quarter.
Flacco turned 35 in January and has had multiple injury issues over the last few years. After 11 seasons in Baltimore, he signed with Denver last season. Flacco went 2-6 as the Broncos starting quarterback, tossing for 1,822 yards with six TDs and five picks (65.3% completion rate). His season wended when he had to go on the injured reserve with a herniated disc in his neck.
Flacco did have a lot of success with the Ravens, throwing 11 touchdowns without an interception to win Super Bowl XLVII. Overall, he's 98-73 as a starter with 40,067 passing yards, 218 touchdowns and 141 interceptions.
The Jets have Sam Darnold as their starting quarterback, but they have lacked a quality backup. They did draft James Morgan from FIU in the fourth round and re-signed David Fales. But apparently the Jets wanted a more experienced backup.
The terms have not been disclosed, though Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports says that he's making $1.5M for the 2020 season with another $3M available.
