Mac McClung To Skip NBA Draft To Enter Transfer Portal

The Georgetown Hoyas had a heck of a recruiting class for the 2018/19 season but in an eight-month period of time, it has all fallen apart. Mac McClung, James Akinjo, and Josh LeBlanc were all apart of that class. All three had outstanding freshman years but then troubles started to crop up in their sophomore seasons. Leblanc had some off the court issues and eventually transferred to LSU. Akinjo did not get along with coach Ewing and left for Arizona a few games into last season. Now, McClung has announced that he will pull his name out of the NBA draft pool and will enter the transfer portal.

McClung is one of the best players in the nation and he was left to carry the team on his back last year, once conference play began. In his first season, he averaged 13.1 ppg but last year, he upped that to 15.7 ppg, which led the team. He did play in just 21 games as a foot injury cut short his season, but make no mistake, he is one of the better players in the nation and will be the most sought after transfer.

The NCAA is mulling making it possible for players to transfer without sitting out a year, so McClung had three options. He could stay with the Hoyas, play in the NBA’s G-League, or transfer and possibly risk sitting out a year. He initially wanted to test the draft waters before pulling out and choosing to enter the transfer portal. McClung has not revealed how it went with the NBA’s evaluation process.

"It was a number of different events that made me feel I had no choice but to transfer from Georgetown," McClung told ESPN. "I really wanted to stay, but things throughout my career made me realize that I couldn't."Mac McClung

So what is next for the nation’s most sought after transfer. There are a bunch of teams that have expressed interest in the Georgetown superstar, including Florida, Auburn, Texas A&M, Arkansas, USC, BYU, Wake Forest, Tennessee, Gonzaga, Utah, Arizona State, Oklahoma State, and Georgia. It will be a mad scramble to see who will get the services of McClung this year.
