NCAAB Top Ten (Week of March 6th)
The clock is ticking on the regular season in College Basketball. There’s a new #1 this week and teams are fighting for a #1 seed. Here is this week’s Top Ten.
Top Ten (Week of March 6th)
Welcome Back: Auburn ‘Til We Meet Again: Kansas
#10. Auburn (22-7) (+2200) - The Tigers return to the Top 25 with another win this week. They close with a home game against Georgia before next week’s NCAA Tournament. Last Week’s Rank: Unranked
#9. Marquette (21-6) (+2500) - The Golden Eagles get a second shot at UConn tonight, this time at home. They close at Xavier as they try to improve their tournament seeding. Last Week’s Rank: 6th
#8. Duke (21-6) (+2200) - They get their rematch with UNC on Saturday. If the Blue Devils prevail and win the ACC, this is at minimum a #2 seed. Last Week’s Rank: 8th
#7. Iowa State (23-6) (+2000) - A great close by the Cyclones has them vying for a #2 seed in the tourney. They close out the regular season against BYU. Last Week’s Rank: 10th
#6. North Carolina (23-6) (+2000) - The Heels close with a game on the road against arch-rival Duke. If the Heels close with a win and then take the ACC Tournament, its not inconceivable that they earn a #1 seed. Last Week’s Rank: 7th
#5. Arizona (23-6) (+1200) - Arizona should win out with home games against UCLA and USC to finish the season. They are laying in wait for a Tennessee slip-up to earn a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Last Week’s Rank: 5th
#4. Tennessee (23-6) (+1200) - Tennessee doesn’t end the season quietly with a game at South Carolina tonight and a home tilt with Kentucky on Saturday. If they win out, they are in position for a #1 seed. Last Week’s Rank: 4th
#3. Purdue (26-3) (+750) - Purdue took care of business on Sunday with a win at Illinois. They have a week off before facing Wisconsin at home on Sunday. Barring an opening game loss in the Big Ten Tournament, this is a #1 seed. Last Week’s Rank: 3
#2. UConn (26-3) (+500) - UConn has a big rematch with Marquette on the road tonight and then finishes at Providence on Saturday. They still look like the most well-rounded team as the NCAA Tournament looms. Last Week’s Rank: 2
#1. Houston (26-3) (+750) - The Cougars held onto the top spot with a couple of tight wins. They close out the season with UCF on the road tonight and a clash with Kansas at home on Saturday. Last Week’s Rank: 1st
Game of the Weekend, Season Record 5-1: Creighton took care of business at home on Saturday to improve our overall mark to 6-1 this season.
#14 Kansas at #1 Houston: Houston will be going for payback here after the Jayhawks dominated the final 10 minutes of their first game to pull away with a win. I like Houston to cover here and earn a bit of payback against a Jayhawks team that hasn’t proven to be road-tough this season.
