NFL Free Agency Update (4/10)
NFL Free Agency Update
Well, we finally have some more action going around in the free agency market. Sadly, none of the top premiere available players such as Jadeveon Clowney or any of the quarterbacks have found a new home yet. However, these transactions show that teams are still willing to make a deal. We've seen a lot of lower-tier players, headed by Blaine Gabbert signing with Tampa Bay, be taken off the market in the past couple of days.
Outside of those additions, the Chiefs have certainly been the most active of the teams. Kansas City wideout Sammy Watkins saw his deal be restructured which included a no-trade clause and also freed up five million in cap space for the team. The Chiefs were also able to add back-up running back and former Raider DeAndre Washington for a year and resign cornerback Bashaud Breeland for one year and four and a half million dollars.
The big move over the past few days saw Houston once again active in the trading department. The Texans sent a 2020 second-round pick to the Rams in exchange for a 2022 fourth-round pick and wide receiver Brandin Cooks. This adds to the growing list of bad management decisions for the team. Houston gave up their top receiver and one of the league's best in DeAndre Hopkins to Arizona and they received David Johnson (from Arizona) and Cooks in total. One has to wonder what's going on in Bill O'Brien's head during this offseason.
Cooks caught 42 passes for 583 yards last season and will now be playing for his fourth team since 2017. He is more of a vertical threat than Hopkins, but is he worth a second-round pick at this point in his career after being traded for the third time?
