Washington (-1) over CHICAGO 12-7
This was one of the worst games in recent memory on a Thursday or any other day. The Bears was the right side as they had 238 rushing yards and 154 passing yards. Washington had just 214 total yards as QB Carson Wentz threw for 99 yards. Wentz is now out 4-6 weeks with a fractured ring finger. The Bears’ punt returner Velus Jones Jr. muffed a punt return and Washington recovered at the Chicago 6-yard line in the fourth quarter. Washington missed a 48-yard FG with 1:49 left and the Bears drove it all the way downfield in order to once again fail to get points on fourth-and-goal.

Cincinnati (-3) over NEW ORLEANS 30-26
The Bengals allowed a team with Andy Dalton at quarterback with no Michael Thomas and Chris Olave at receiver to hang in the game most of the way. They couldn’t stop the run as Alvin Kamara rushed for 99 of the Saints’ 228 yards. Joe Burrow threw for 300 yards and three TD, while Ja’Marr Chase broke out with 132 yards and two TDs. Despite all that, the Saints should have won and covered this game. They led the entire way until Burrow hit Chase with a 60-yard TD pass with 1:57 left.
INDIANAPOLIS (-1.5) over Jacksonville 34-27
The Colts got some revenge in this one after the Jags crushed them in the opener. Matt Ryan finally showed a pulse, completing 42 of 58 for 389 yards with three TDs and no picks. That’s embarrassing for the Jags, considering they knew they had to stop the pass with Jonathan Taylor out. Trevor Lawrence completed 20 of 22 for 165 yards with one TD. The Jags ran for 243 yards, but couldn’t stop the pass. They were up by one with 2:44 left, but allowed a 32-yard Ryan to Alec Pierce TD pass with 17 seconds left to break a 27-all tie. Taylor is still questionable this week.
NY GIANTS (+5.5) over Baltimore 24-20
The Giants are 5-1 and the Ravens blew another fourth-quarter lead. Baltimore was up 20-10 after a 12-yard pass from Lamar Jackson to Mark Andrews. However, Jackson threw a late pick and also fumbled the ball after Saquon Barkley ran it in from one yard out with 1:43 left in the game. The Ravens ran all over the Giants (211 yards), but they were -1 in turnover ratio. Daniel Jones was held to six yards rushing, but was efficient with 173 yards passing and two TDs. Baltimore RB J.K. Dobbins (knee) was held out in the second half. The passing game has missed WR Rashod Bateman (foot), who has missed two straight games. They just signed 35-year old DeSean Jackson to the practice squad. The Giants have a bunch of receivers hurt including Kadarius Toney (hamstring), who is questionable for Week 7.
ATLANTA (+3.5) over San Francisco 28-24
The Falcons jumped out to a 14-0 lead and then Brandon Aiyuk caught two TD passes from Jimmy Garoppolo to tie the game in the second quarter. The Niners never scored again and Atlanta put up 14 more unanswered points to get upset. Marcus Mariota threw for 2 TDs and ran for one, but completed just 13 of 14 for 129 yards. That’s all the Falcons needed to beat a Niners team that gave up 168 yards rushing. Jimmy G. threw for 296 yards, but also had two picks. That’s not the 49ers M.O. They ran for just 50 yards on 16 carries. The Falcons lost CB Casey Howard (shoulder) and he was placed on the IR. The Niners hope to get back OT Trent Williams (ankle), DE Nick Bosa (groin), CB Jimmie Ward (hand) and DT Arik Armstead (foot) back this week against Kansas City.
NY Jets (+7.5) over GREEN BAY 27-10
The Jets are 4-2 after scoring 24 points in the second half to stun the Packers. Once again, Green Bay showed that they couldn’t stop the run as the Jets ran for 179 yards on 33 carries. Aaron Rodgers struggled again with his new WR corps. He completed 26 of 41 for 246 yards and one TD. The Packers couldn’t run the ball (60 yards) and that’s one of the major issues. The good news for Rodgers is that Sammy Watkins (hamstring) is getting closer to returning. However, veteran Randall Cobb (ankle) is out 2-4 weeks.
New England (+1.5) over CLEVELAND 38-15
A dominant performance from the Patriots against a Cleveland defense that can’t stop anyone. Instead of running the ball, this time it was rookie Bailey Zappe, who threw for 309 yards and 2 TDs with no picks. Rhamondre Stevenson ran for two TDs and 76 yards. Now you wonder if the Mac Jones era is coming to an end in New England. It was a rough game for Jacoby Brissett, who completed 21 of 45 for 266 yards with two picks. The Browns allowed 399 yards of total offense to an unheralded rookie QB and ran for just 70 yards on 18 carries. Cleveland also may have lost CB Denzel Ward for this week due to a concussion. Jones (ankle) and RB Damien Harris (hamstring) are listed as questionable this week.
PITTSBURGH (+10) over Tampa Bay 20-18
Here’s another big upset where the Steelers went back to quarterback Mitch Trubisky, who replaced an injured Kenny Pickett. Pickett suffered a concussion in the third quarter and Trubisky came in to throw for 144 yards including a TD pass to Chase Claypool, who might be one of the many receivers on the trade block. Pittsburgh broke a four-game losing streak to improve to 2-4 on the season. Tampa Bay fell to 3-3 despite Tom Brady tossing for 243 yards and a score but something is not right in Bucsland. The lack of a running game (75yds) is a possibility. The defense is still tough, but they forced no turnovers and had just two sacks against a bad offensive line. On the injury front, Tampa Bay safety Logan Ryan (foot) was placed on the IR according to ESPN.
Minnesota (-3) over MIAMI 24-16
Here’s a game that bettors of Miami had to be frustrated with. Rookie Skylar Thompson (thumb) was hurt early on so that gave a chance for backup Teddy Bridgewater to rescue the team. Minnesota needed a Dalvin Cook 53-yard TD run to secure the win. A fumble by Jaylen Waddle at the Minnesota 28 with the Dolphins down 16-10 was the key play of the game that was winnable for the Fins. But the Vikes and Kirk Cousins found a way despite allowing 385 yards in the air to two backup quarterbacks. They found a way despite amassing just 11 first downs. But the 10 penalties for 97 yards was a problem for Miami along with the two interceptions from Bridgewater. Good news for Miami is that Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) should return this week.
SEATTLE (+2.5) over Arizona 19-9
What an ugly game, but what an ugly start for Arizona. The Seahawks needed four field goals from Jason Myers to win this game. At 3-3, they are now in a first-place tie with San Francisco and the LA Rams. Arizona missed running backs James Conner (ribs) and Darrell Williams (knee), but they weren’t great with them. Kyler Murray was sacked six times the Cardinals were stuffed on four of five fourth-down conversion attempts. Terrible offense from Arizona or a great defense from Seattle? Probably the former, but good news for the Cardinals. They get WR DeAndre Hopkins back from a suspension and they just traded for Robbie Anderson. That has to help Murray, you would think. Unfortunately for Arizona, they have a quick turnaround and have to play New Orleans on Thursday with Williams, Conner and Eno Benjamin all listed as questionable with various injuries.
LA RAMS (-7.5) over Carolina 24-10
It wasn’t a pretty game for interim coach Steve Wilkes, after taking over for Matt Rhule in Carolina. Robbie Anderson gets kicked off the sideline after getting in an argument with an assistant coach and then winds up getting traded to Arizona a day later. With P.J. Walker at quarterback for the injured Baker Mayfield, Carolina wound up with eight first downs and 203 overall yards. The Rams struggled offensively, as they were down 10-7 at the half because Matthew Stafford was picked off by Donte Jackson for a 30-yard pick-six. Carolina led at the half before the Rams scored 17 unanswered points in the second half. Stafford threw for 254 yards, but there is still a concern at running back. Sean McVay had to go to several wide receiver runs and reverses including a Ben Skowronek 17-yard run late in the third quarter for a TD. Carolina could go back to Sam Darnold, who is expected to come off the IR this week but may not be ready by Sunday.
Buffalo (-3.5) over KANSAS CITY 24-20
This was the game of the week and it lived up to expectations. It wasn’t a pretty game for either quarterback as Josh Allen struggled early on against the Chiefs’ defense. But Buffalo was able to run the football (125 yards) and Allen wound up completing 27 of 40 for 329 yards with three TDs. Patrick Mahomes threw for 338 yards and two TDs, but also had two critical interceptions to hampered the Chiefs. JuJu Smith-Schuster had a big game for KC with five catches for 113 yards and a score. Defensive help is on its way for the Bills as CB Tre’Davious White (knee) is starting to practice this week.
PHILADELPHIA (-6.5) over Dallas 26-17
This Sunday Night game was pretty much all Philadelphia. As usual, the Eagles jumped out to a huge first-half lead because that’s what they do. They were up 20-3, before Brett Maher nailed a 30-yard field goal with 29 seconds left. Dallas scored two more TDs in the second half to cut it to 20-17, but Jalen Hurts hit Devonta Smith for a 7-yard TD pass to get the one. This one was about turnovers and QB Cooper Rush had his first bad game against a very good defense. He completed just 18 of 38 for 181 yards with a TD and three picks. Both teams were able to rush for over 130 yards apiece and were limited in the passing game. The Eagles won the turnover battle led by two INTs from C.J. Gardner-Johnson. Dak Prescott (thumb) is expected to practice Thursday for the Cowboys for the first time since the injury. Eagles’ RT Lane Johnson (concussion) was injured against Dallas, but the Eagles do have a bye this week.
Monday, Oct. 17
Denver (+4) over LA CHARGERS 16-19ot
Another ugly prime-time game for Denver. This one was just dominated by both defenses. The Chargers scored just one touchdown and it was a rushing one from Austin Ekeler. Dustin Hopkins was the hero for Los Angeles with four field goals on a strained right hamstring. He’s now out 2-4 weeks according to reports. The Chargers really need WR Keenan Allen (hamstring), who was expected to play on Monday, but now is expected to play on Sunday against Seattle. The bigger issue for the Chargers is up front where OT Rashawn Slater is out with a biceps injury for most of the season. Denver’s issues start at QB where Russell Wilson (hamstring/shoulder) is banged up and expected to play against the Jets. If they had a stronger running game, it would help though Melvin Gordon was held to just three carries for eight yards, not due to injury, but head coach Brandon Staley benched him.
