NFL Week 6 Betting Recap
NFL Week 6 Betting Recap
This was an incredible week for highs and lows when it comes to betting and quarterback injuries. This was definitely an under week (12-2) and a time when the officials took over with a million flags thrown. Let’s take a look at each game from Week 6 and look at the betting implications that occurred and may also affect the line in Week 7 and beyond.

KANSAS CITY (-10.5/47.5) over Denver 19-8
This was truly an ugly game, but for betting purposes, if you took Kansas City, you were happy that Harrison Butker made a 52-yard field goal to seal things with 1:55 left in the game. The Chiefs struggled to finish (join the club) despite the fact that Patrick Mahomes threw for 306 yards and a TD. Travis Kelce caught nine passes for 124 yards, but the Chiefs had to settle for four field goals. The defense showed up in this one, picking off Russell Wilson twice and holding him to 95 yards passing. Mahomes is now 12-0 against the Broncos in 12 starts and the Broncos might be sellers right now at 1-5..Courtland Sutton caught a TD pass thus possibly enhancing his trade value.

Baltimore (-5/42.5) over TENNESSEE 24-16 (from London)
There was no real home team for this one though the Ravens had a little more help from the crowd with a Baltimore presence (you can always tell during the National Anthem when you hear a very loud “Oh”). This was a typical Ravens performance as they built up an 18-3 halftime lead and did virtually nothing on offense in the second half. They needed six field goals from Justin Tucker and went just 1-of-6 in the Red Zone. Lamar Jackson completed 21 of 30 for 223 yards with a TD and a pick. He also ran for 62 yards to lead the team and that’s becoming a problem. Baltimore could use a Derrick Henry, who ran for 97 yards, but 63 came on one run. Ryan Tannehill was bad, completing just 8 of 16 for 76 yards and a pick. He also sprained his ankle late in the game and was replaced by second-year QB Malik Willis (74 yards), who took some rough sacks late in the game. Willis will likely be the starter for the next few weeks as Tannehill recovers. The defense played well, at least in the red zone, but they did allow Baltimore to posses the ball for 35:42.
Washington (+1.5/41.5) over ATLANTA 24-16
Washington bounced back from an awful loss at home to Chicago on Thursday night. The Commanders’ defense stepped up in this game and forced three interceptions from Desmond Ridder, including one in the end zone that was caught by Benjamin St-Juste. The key to slowing down Atlanta is stopping their running game. Washington held rookie Bijan Robinson to just 37 yards on the ground and Tyler Allgeier 51 yards. Ridder did throw for 397 yards including nine passes to Drake London for 125 yards. The Commanders didn’t do much offensively, recording just 13 first downs, with 72 yards rushing and 121 passing yards, but they had no turnovers and Sam Howell threw three TD passes.
Minnesota (-3/44.5) over Chicago 19-13
The Vikings got a break when QB Justin Field let in the third quarter with a hand injury. He completed just 6 of 10 for 58 yards and a pick, before he was injured. He was replaced by undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent, who completed 10 of 14 for 83 yards but threw a pick I the final two minutes. With no Khalil Herbert and a rookie QB from a D3 school, the Bears did very little on offense. The Bears still had 162 yards rushing on 36 carries, while the Vikings were held to just 46 yards. Kirk Cousins threw for a pedestrian 181 yards, but with no picks and his favorite target was TE T.J. Hockenson, who had six catches for 50 yards. With Justin Jefferson out. Hockenson and rookie Jordan Addison (3 for 28 yds, 1 TD) will need to step up.
JACKSONVILLE (-4.5/43.5) over Indianapolis 37-20
The Jags controlled this game from start to finish. Trevor Lawrence threw for two TDs and Travis Etienne ran for for two scores. However, Lawrence, who threw for 181 yards with a pick, was injured in the fourth quarter on a sack. He suffered a minor left knee injury and may not play on Thursday night. If Lawrence can’t go, veteran C.J. Beathard will take over at quarterback. It was a disappointing effort for the Colts, who had to throw the ball after being down early. Gardner Minshew completed 33 of 55 for 329 yards with a TD, but also had a career-worst three picks. He was starting in place of Anthony Richardson, who miss the season with a shoulder injury. Indy ran just 17 ties led by Zach Moss (21 yds, 1 TD) and Jonathan Taylor (8 for 19 yds).
CLEVELAND (+9.5/35.5) over San Francisco
This was the shocking score of the day. The Browns went to third-stringer P.J. Walker, who was able to make enough plays to get the win. But it really about the Cleveland defense and injuries on the offensive side for the 49ers. Dustin Hopkins kicked a chip shot with 1:40 left to get the game winner, but San Francisco still had a chance to get the win. Jake Moody missed a 41-yard FG with six seconds left. Jordan Mason helped give the 49ers a lead with an 8-yard TD with 10:58 left to go up 17-13. Mason was in due to an oblique injury suffered by Christian McCaffrey in the third quarter. WR Deebo Samuel also suffered a shoulder injury in the first quarter and they also lost Pro Bowl LT Trent Williams to a sprained ankle. It wasn’t a high ankle sprain, which means he shouldn’t miss time or much time. McCaffrey would get out awhile, which means more of RB Elijah Mitchell. Cleveland was playing without Deshaun Watson as Walker threw for 192 yards, but also two picks. The player most effected by the offensive injuries was QB Brock Purdy, who struggled, going 12 of 27 for 125 yards with a TD and a pick. To make matters worse for viewers, both teams combined for 25 penalties for 224 yards.
CINCINNATI (-3/45.5) over Seattle 17-13\
This game could have been a shootout, but there were none on Sunday. Seattle did everything they could to put themselves in position to win. They scored on the opening drive, but Geno Smith was sacked four times. The Bengals slowed the Seahawks down twice inside the 10-yard line in the final three minutes to secure the win. Cincy didn’t do anything special as Joe Burrow threw for 185 yards with two TDs and a pick. Smith complete 27 of 41 for 323 yards for a Seattle team that had a three-game winning streak snapped. Tough news for Cincinnati as starting left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. went down with a groin injury late in the third quarter. Brown said after the game that he won’t miss time and the Bengals has a bye in Week 7 so that should help.
HOUSTON (+2.5/41.5) over New Orleans 20-13
On the bad side, C.J. Stroud finally threw his first interception. But he also threw for two TDs and for 199 yards. This was another example of teams struggling in the red zone. Derek Carr passed for 353 yards and a TD, but the Saints went scoreless in three trips deep into Texans’ territory in the fourth quarter. Play-calling was an issue as the Saints reached the Houston 14 in the fourth quarter and Carr’s pass to Alvin Kamar gained just two yards on 4th-and-4. The Saints ran for just 89 yards on 25 carries and Houston ran for 120 on 31 led by 58 from Devin Singletary.
MIAMI (-14/47.5) over Carolina 42-21
Miami spotted Carolina two touchdowns and still beat them by 21. They didn’t have De’Von Achane and Raheem Mostert (115 yards, 3 TDs) and Tyreek Hill (163 yds receiving) do what they do and that’s just run wild on teams. Panthers’ QB Bryce Young completed 23 of 38 for 217 yards with a TD. Chuba Hubbard rushed for 88 yards, while Adam Thielen caught 11 passes for 115 yards. The Panthers just don’t have the offensive firepower (296 yards) to keep up with a Dolphins powerhouse. As a winless team with little talent, it may be time to trade for draft picks.
LAS VEGAS (-2.5/42.5) over New England 21-17
The Raiders covered this on a safety when Mac Jones was sacked in the end zone by Bilal Nichols with 1:47 left in the game. Before that, Las Vegas essentially controlled the game before Jimmy Garoppolo left with a back injury early in the second half for veteran Brian Hoyer. Jones threw for 200 yards and a pick on 24-for-33 passing. Ezekiel Elliott and Rhamondre Stevenson ran for a TD apiece for the Patriots. Josh Jacobs ran for 77 yards on 25 carries for the Raiders, while Hoyer threw for 102 yards in the second half. The Patriots fell to 1-5 and Bill Belichick missed out on winning his 300th regular season game.
Detroit (-3/43.5) over TAMPA BAY 20-6
The Lions are for real. Jared Goff threw for 353 yards with two TDs while completing 30 of 44. Amon-Ra St. Brown came back from injury to catch 12 passes for 124 yards and a TD. Abut the only negative for the Lions was that top rusher David Montgomery suffered a rib injury in the second quarter and did not return. He’ll definitely miss this week’s game against Baltimore. Bake Mayfield completed 19 of 37 for 206 yards and a pick. The Bucs’ lack of rushing game really cost them as they were limited to just 46 rushing yards.
LA RAMS (-7.5/47.5) over Arizona 26-9
The good news for Arizona is that it appears that Kyler Murray is close to returning. Joshuan Dobbs has done his best, but at some point, they need a better option. He was 21 of 41 for 235 yards with an INT. Matt Prater booter three field goals but the Cardinals were held scoreless in the fourth quarter for the fifth time in all five losses. The Rams and Matthew Stafford found Copper Kupp, who had 101 yards receiving in the first half. In the second half, Kyren Williams took over in the second half and wound up with 158 yards and a TD with 154 yards coming in the second half. Stafford completed 15 of 24 for 226 yards.
NY JETS (+6.5/43.5) over Philadelphia 20-14
This was another shocking result considering how this game was lost. The Eagles went into this game unbeaten and had a chance to win 14-12, but Jalen Hurts threw an interception with under 2:00 left and Breece Hall scored from 8-yards out. The Eagles were completely shut down after going up 14-3 in the second quarter. Hurts had a rough game tossing three picks for the first time in his career. He did rush for 47 yards and a TD and threw for 280 yards, including 131 to A.J. Brown. The Jets were playing starting cornerbacks Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed due to concussions.
BUFFALO (-15.5/43.5) over NY Giants 14-9
The Bills were very fortunate to win this game. The Giants had to settle for three field goals with Tyrod Taylor at quarterback, but he helped them move 56 yards in 13 plays in the final 1:25. Buffalo was called for pass interference to give New York another shot at the end zone. Instead of giving the ball to Saquon Barkley, the Giants had Taylor throw it and he just missed Darren Waller for the game-winning TD pass (though another PI could have been called or defensive holding). Josh Allen struggled in the first half, but wound up with 169 yards passing and a pick. Stefon Diggs caught 10 passes for 100 yards to help push Buffalo to 4-2, while the Giants fell to 1-6. Taylor, in for the injured Daniel Jones, completed 24 of 36 for 200 yards. Barkley rushed for 93 yards on 24 carries.

Dallas (-1.5/50) over LA CHARGERS 20-17
This should have been a shootout, but penalties (a combined 20 for 164 yards) again slowed this game to a halt. Dallas needed a 39-yard field goal from rookie Brandon Aubrey to get the win with 2:19 left. Stephon Gilmore picked off Justin Herbert to seal the win as Dallas escaped with the big win to improve to 4-2. The Chargers dropped to 2-3 as Justin Herbert thew for 227 yards and a pick with two TDs. However, they couldn’t run the ball as Austin Eckeler was held to 27 yards on 14 carries after missing the previous three games with an ankle injury. Dak Prescott rebounded from a poor game against the 49ers to throw for 272 yards and a TD and also rushed for 40 yards with a TD.
