Odds to Win the 2024-25 Vezina Trophy
The award for the best goaltender in the NHL is one of the most prestigious awards in sports. You can have the most stacked offensive and defensive team in hockey, but if you don’t have a quality goaltender, you most likely will fall apart in the playoffs. Last year’s Vezina Trophy winner was Connor Hellebuyck of Winnipeg, who led the league with an NHL-low 199 goals, had a .921 save percentage and 2.39 goals against average while shutting out opponents five times.
Hellebuyck is surprisingly the fourth favorite at +900 (Draft Kings) and Jeremy Swayman (+600) is the co-favorite along with Igor Shesterkin.
Swayman will be the full-time starter for Boston this season. The Bruins traded Linus Ullmark to Ottawa for Joonas Korpisalo, but he’ll be the backup. Swayman has 79 wins in 132 career games and a .919 save percentage.
Igor Shesterkin from the New York Rangers has 35 wins in each of the last three seasons. He finished fourth in the voting last season and is 135-59-17 in his career. Expectations are high that he will claim his second Vezina Trophy.
Longshot
Jake Oettinger (+1200)
Oettinger is more of a risk because he’s coming off a down season. He led Dallas to the Western Conference Finals last season. The 25-year-old went 35-14-4 last season with a save percentage of .905.
Ben’s Pick: Thatcher Demko (+800)
The Vancouver netminder was injured for most of the NHL playoffs last season and still finished second with a 35-14-2 record in the Vezina voting. He increased his numbers from a .901 save percentage in 2022-23 to a .918 in 2023-24. A healthy season means he’s a top candidate for the trophy and he’ll take it this season.
