Teams Showing Interest In Miami’s Rosen
The Miami Dolphins used the fifth pick in this year’s draft to select former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who they hope will be their franchise quarterback.
The selection of Tagovailoa and the fact that the team brought back veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick makes third string quarterback Josh Rosen expendable.
Rosen, who was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals with the 10th pick of the 2018 draft before being traded to Miami last season, is reportedly attracting interest from other teams. However, it is unclear if the Dolphins are willing to give him up.
"[Rosen is] a young player that has some talent," said Dolphins general manager Chris Grier back in January. "For us going forward knowing that we were going to have a lot of picks, and money available in the future, it made sense for us to make that trade. We're happy we made it. Josh has made huge strides like [coach] Brian [Flores] has talked about. It's been fun watching him grow. Nobody got to see it, but he did a tremendous job growing."
Rosen was a standout at UCLA, but he hasn’t gotten a fair shake in the NFL. He started 13 games as a rookie for the Cardinals, throwing for 2,278 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. During the offseason in 2019, he was shipped off to Miami, but he only got to start three games for the Dolphins last season before being benched for Fitzpatrick.
With Tagovailoa expected to start for the Dolphins and Fitzpatrick expected to back him up, Rosen isn’t likely to get a lot of playing time this season unless one of the players ahead of him on the depth chart gets injured.
Since Rosen is costing the team only $2 million this season, they aren’t in a rush to get a deal done and will likely wait to see if they can get close to the haul they gave up for him before they agree to ship him off to another team.
