UFC on ESPN+ 57: Lewis vs Daukaus - Card Preview - 12/18/21
We arrive at the last fight card of 2021 and this one is headlined by the big boys. Veteran heavyweight banger, Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis returns to the cage to welcome the surging Chris Daukaus. Daukaus, a police officer, who moonlights as a UFC athlete (Edit: just announced he resigned as a police officer when his boss made him pick between the two professions), has four UFC fights and all of them have ended by TKO. Lewis, a long time staple in the heavyweight division, will look to get back into the win column after losing to Cyril Gane the last time out. The Louisiana native boasts 20 professional TKO/KO’s out of his 25 wins. Combine that with his hilarious soundbites and authentic personality and you have a recipe for must-see tv.
After last week’s ultra-stacked PPV card, it was inevitable we would see a drop in quality but this one isn’t bad by any means for a fight night affair. We will also be treated to the return of Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson in the co-main event. The karate expert takes on 10th ranked Welterweight, Belal “Remember the Name” Muhammad. That one will be a clash of styles in the striker vs grappler realm.
The Cub Swanson and Darren Elkins match has the potential to be a bloodbath. And on the undercard, Gerald Meerschaet looks to continue his submission ways in the feature prelim. As of this writing, the cards look to kick off at 4:00 PM EST and 7:00 PM EST. Lineup can be found below.
