UFC on ESPN+ 60: Green vs Makhachev - Card Preview - 2/26/22
The Apex Facility in Vegas will host its second straight fight night card this Saturday, February 26. This one is headlined by surging lightweight prospect, Islam Makhachev. He was originally supposed to face Beneil Dariush but Dariush had to withdraw because of an ankle injury. Stepping up on short notice is Bobby Green, who’s fresh off a dismantling of Nasrat Haqparast two weeks ago. This one will be contested at a catchweight of 160 lbs due to the short notice.
Makhachev has won 9 straight UFC fights and currently sits 4th in the lightweight rankings. He most recently finished Dan Hooker in two and a half minutes by submission. This will be yet another striker vs grappler match up for the sambo world champion and the bookies sure think it will be light work for him (-714 favorite). He has a ton of hype behind him and many think he will be challenging for the title sooner rather than later.
As for the rest of the card, there’s no sugar coating this one, it’s a dumpster fire. Wellington Turman is in the co-main event which pretty much says it all. Despite there being absolutely no name power, ranked fighters, or title implications on this card, I can see a few of the match ups being exciting scraps. I’d keep an eye on Rodriguez/Petrosyan and Alvarez/Tsarukyan. On the undercard, Rong/Bahamondes looks to be a fun one and Perez/Martinez should be a high action striker’s delight.
